BREAKING: Buhari’s Minister Receives Strong Order To Sack Top FG’s Appointee

BREAKING: Buhari’s Minister has received a strong order to sack a top FG’s appointee.
News ToGo learned that the Committee on Finance of the House of Representatives has asked the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed to sack the Director of Finance of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Akinyoghon Ojo over extra-budgetary spending.
At the hearing on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework, the committee discovered that the agency spent about N2 billion without budgetary approval in 2021 and spent about N3 billion in 2022.
James Faleke, the Chairman of the Committee, directed the Clerk of the Committee to write a letter to the Minister of Finance to sack the Finance Director.
He stated that the FCCPC, which is a fully funded agency spent their Internally Generated Revenue against the provision of the Constitution and the fiscal responsibility Act.
The lawmakers discovered that the agency generated N4.021 billion but remitted only N1.3 billion. So far in 2022, the agency generated N3.661 billion as at July but remitted N1.2 billion.
“Clerk, write to the Minister of Finance, that in respect of this agency, no fund should be released until we have seen the letter of the redeployment of the DFA. No fund should be released,” he said.
In response, Mr Ojo explained that the agency got the approval of a committee of the House to spend the money.
However, Faleke responded that no committee has such power. He ruled that the agency should appear again on Monday with a new Director of Finance. Furthermore, he directed relevant authorities to place an embargo on the account of the agency.

BREAKING: NLC Speaks On Agreement With FG To Calls Off Proposed Nationwide Strike

NLC has spoken on agreement with FG to call off its proposed nationwide strike.
News ToGo reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said it has no agreement with the Federal Government to call off the planned indefinite strike scheduled for October 3.
Mr. Benson Upah, the Head of Information and Public Affairs at the NLC disclosed this in a statement.
Upah spoke in response to a statement allegedly issued by Mr. Olajide Oshundun, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. He pointed out inconsistencies in the statement, including references to the proposed strike and the illegal occupation of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) secretariat.
The NLC emphasized that there was no agreement with the government to suspend the planned strike. It added that there was also no scheduled meeting with the government to discuss its suspension. The union clarified that this matter goes beyond the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
While acknowledging the role played by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Simon Lalong, in securing the release of NURTW executives from unlawful police detention, the NLC took exception to the ministry describing these executives as “factional leaders,” asserting that they were lawfully elected.
It urged the police and those responsible for the executives’ troubles to cease their conduct. NLC added that they should refrain from impunity, emphasizing the importance of upholding democracy and the rule of law.
