BREAKING: NELFUND Postpones Student Loan Applications

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced the postponement of the student loan applications.

News ToGo reports that the NELFUND announced a 14-day postponement for student loan applications for state institutions due to low data submissions. The delay, now extending the application start date to July 10, 2024, was prompted by several state-owned institutions failing to upload the necessary student data and fee information to the NELFUND Student Verification System.

According to the agency’s statement in Abuja, only a limited number of state institutions have completed the data submission process: 20 out of 48 state universities, 12 out of 54 state colleges, and 2 out of 49 state polytechnics. This lack of data poses significant challenges to ensuring a seamless and accurate verification process for student loan applicants.

The extension aims to provide additional time for state institutions to comply with data submission requirements, ensuring their students can benefit from the Federal Government student loan scheme. The required information includes JAMB numbers, matriculation numbers, admission numbers, full names, levels, faculties, departments, program durations, fees, and genders of all eligible students. Incomplete or incorrect data submissions will lead to application delays and potential disqualification.

NELFUND urged all state institutions to expedite their data submission processes and warned that failing to meet the revised deadline could disadvantage their students, who depend on these loans to support their education.

JUST IN: Death Recorded As Fatal Accident Occurs On Third Mainland Bridge

One person tragically lost their life in an accident on Saturday morning on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

News ToGo reports that the incident involved a collision between a mini truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD).

According to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), initial findings indicate that the accident was caused by excessive speeding amid heavy rainfall earlier in the day.

Mr. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, disclosed in the statement issued by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, that three other individuals were rescued from the accident scene. The incident occurred near the Unilag waterfront, heading towards the Iyana-Oworonsoki area of Lagos.

Despite ongoing efforts to educate motorists on adhering to speed limits, Giwa expressed concern over continued violations of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, by drivers. He urged both commercial bus operators and private car owners to observe speed limits strictly, particularly on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roadways across the state.

Giwa noted that officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) swiftly attended to the deceased, while LASTMA ensured the prompt clearance of the accident vehicles to facilitate smooth traffic flow on the bridge.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed the critical importance of prioritizing road safety measures.
