INSURANCE: Linkage Assurance Records Massive Profit Of Over A Billion Naira

INSURANCE: Linkage Assurance has recorded massive profit of over a billion Naira.

News ToGo learned that Linkage Assurance Plc said it recorded a profit before tax of N1.47bn in the first half of 2022 from a loss position of N2.11bn in the corresponding period of 2021.

The company disclosed this in a statement to the Nigerian Stock Exchange and shareholders on the unaudited result for the second quarter ended 30th June 2022. It disclosed that profit after tax also moved up to N1.39bn at the end of June 2022, from N2.09bn in June 2021, The Punch reports.

The Chairman of the board, Chief Joshua Fumudoh, disclosed that Linkage Assurance recorded a gross premium written of N8.3bn in the review period from N6.95bn in the previous year. During the review period, the company recorded a net underwriting income of N3.52bn from N2.7bn in 2021, while the underwriting profit stood strong at N231.28m from a loss position of N1.03bn.

Growth in underwriting profit, according to the company, was attributed to quality risk management and prudence in risks selection, as it continued to meet its claims obligation promptly to customers.

The underwriter, during the period, paid out N1.42bn on claims to its customers that suffered losses during the half year period, from N3.99bn the previous period. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Braie, told shareholders during its last annual general meeting in Lagos that the company was going in a positive direction as shown in its quarter by quarter performance in the current year.

He assured that management was doing all it could to ensure that its underwriting and risks management strategies were adequately deployed to ensure a healthy and stronger bottom line at year end. Linkage Assurance’s total assets stood at N44.51bn at the end of half year, from N38.71bn in 2021, indicating a growth of 14.98 per cent.

Management of Linkage said it would continue to refine its strategy in line with the political, economic, sociological and technological changes in the industry particularly the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the business landscape.

BREAKING: CBN Gives New Order To Banks, Lists Things To Collect From Customers

CBN has given new order to banks on the things to collect from customers.

News ToGo learned that the new CBN regulations mandate financial institutions to collect additional customer information including social media handles, email addresses, telephone numbers, and residential addresses.

This move aims to strengthen the identification process within the banking system. The apex bank outlined these requirements in its recently released document titled ‘Central Bank of Nigeria (Customer Due Diligence) Regulations, 2023.’ It stated that these regulations were established to enhance customer due diligence measures for financial institutions under its regulatory oversight.

The goal is to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act (MLPPA), 2022, Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act (TPPA), 2022, Central Bank of Nigeria (Anti-Money Laundering, Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Countering Proliferation Financing of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Financial Institutions) Regulations, 2022 (CBN AML, CFT, and CPF Regulations), and international best practices.

Under the customer identification section, the CBN specified that financial institutions must identify their customers, whether they are permanent or occasional, natural persons or legal entities, or legal arrangements. The required information for individuals includes legal name and any other names used, permanent address, residential address, telephone number, email address, social media handle, date and place of birth, Bank Verification Number, Tax Identification Number, nationality, occupation, public position held, and name of employer.

The CBN also stated that individuals must provide an unexpired passport, national identification card, residence permit, social security records, or driver’s license as proof of identification. Additionally, financial institutions are required to gather details regarding the type of account, nature of the banking relationship, signature, and politically exposed person status. The document also outlines separate requirements for legal entities and legal arrangements. The CBN emphasized that these regulations apply to all financial institutions under its supervision.

BREAKING: Management Speaks About Lives Of Staff, Documents After WAEC Fire Outbreak

BREAKING: Management has spoken about lives of staff and documents after WAEC fire outbreak.

News ToGo had reported that an early morning fire engulfed the office of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, in Yaba area of Lagos. The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning amid efforts to contain the raging fire.

But the management of WAEC has calmed fears of casualties in the early morning fire that broke out at its national office. An official statement from the examination body which confirmed the fire outbreak made it clear that no life was lost and important documents were intact.

A terse statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, Head, Public Affairs Department of the Council, on Wednesday reads:

“The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), wishes to use this medium to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos. It was swiftly contained by a combined team of firefighters.

“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact.”

There were fears that some staff might have been affected by the fire. The concerns heightened after reports said that many of the WAEC staff were trapped in the building when the fire raged.

However, this statement from the exam body has allayed the fears of Nigerians and other members of the public.
